2028 6-foot-7 wing Brandon Martin is a player that has coaches on all levels watching him closely, anticipating the idea of Martin possibly becoming apart of their respective programs. Martin was a newcomer last season to the Phelps National program, and after getting introduced to playing at this level, he’s now ready to take on more of a leadership role to boost his team to wins.

“It’s a great feeling being back at Phelps,” said Martin. “Our coaching staff changed a bit, but gratefully we retained all of our guys which was a blessing. It’s basically all family here, us younger guys are stepping into being older guys now, so we’re trying to change the culture and get this program back to what it was two-three years ago when we were winning on a regular basis. We’re all really focused and happy to be back.”

2027 G Marquis Newson has not only spent years cementing himself as one of the best two-way guards in the northeast region, but also in the country. Last year for the Saints of Neumann Goretti (PA), Newson averaged just under 13 points, and grabbed 6 rebounds a night as well, while adding 2 blocks and a steal.

2028 wing Enmanuel Valera Melo is an intriguing long-term prospect out of Phelps School (PA). The 6-foot-7 sharpshooter from the Dominican Republic has been carving out a name for himself over the past year on both the National & international levels.

I had the chance to talk with Melo about representing Dominican Republic, his recruitment and more.

Over this past summer, Valera Melo was booked and busy, playing in the infamous NYC summer league ‘NYvsNY’, and also gaining some FIBA experience with Dominican Republic in the AmeriCup.

“My FIBA experience was amazing, we got to play against high-level guys,” said Valera Melo. “We played guys that will be going to college this year, and elite guys from Team USA, like Taylen Kinney & Bruce Branch. It was solid, competition for us to get better. I also got to play with Antonio Pemberton, he’s a great teammate and a great player. He’s definitely one of my guys.”

A huge part of Valera Melo’s roots in the States originate in New York City. Last summer, he was running on the Adidas circuit with New Heights, where he was averaging around 12 ppg & 5 rebounds. This past summer, he spent time with PSA Cardinals on the EYBL circuit playing up in the E17 with guys like Creighton commit Micah Gordon, and Syracuse commit Moussa Kamissoko. When he wasn’t traveling for grassroots or international play, he was honing his game and making his own around New York City as one of the best upcoming players in the area.

“NYvsNY was pretty good,” he said. “I got to play with guys like Asa Montgomery, and Joshua Rivera, some high-level guys. It was a great experience for me to get better. This summer I really worked on my handle, my mental focus and my body too. When I first got to the states, my body was skinny and I wasn’t as strong.”

C3 Scouting will be running a series on the top prospects of the Midwest. Part one starts with South Dakota’s top overall prospect, 6-foot-8 2029 guard/wing Noah Woods of Sioux Falls Washington and travel program D1 Minnesota 3SSB. Woods was recently invited out to Colorado Springs, Colorado for the prestigious USA Basketball Junior National Team Mini-Camp that took place this past weekend, October 9-11. The prospects were evaluated to determine final rosters for the U16 FIBA Americup and U18 FIBA World Cup.

The prospects were separated and grouped by classes with two groups. The blue group had mostly 2027 and 2028 prospects, while the red group consisted of 2029 and 2030 prospects.

C3 Scouting provides an update on and gives an evaluation of Noah Woods, who is a rising national prospect in the 2029 class.

C3 Scouting looks at the top three 2031 big-men from the event. These three are the three that I feel have the best chance at being a high-level prospects and that possess the highest upside.

Damari Lee | 6’4” | 2031 | F/Big | Hope Academy | More Than Hoops Jr EYBL

Damari has a great blend of size/movement/athleticism/coordination for his age. 6-foot-4 at his age is elite, and his hands and feet coordination is right where it needs to be. He was a major defensive presence in the paint and was erasing shots in the painted area at a consistent rate. He showed an advanced offensive skillset for a kid his age and size as well. He was able to put the ball on the floor from the perimeter and continue his handle all the way to the rim. He showed a decent burst off the drive as well and was able to get going upcourt in transition. I thought he saw the floor well with the ball and he did a good job of facing up, surveying the action, and delivering smart and on-target passes. A skilled passer for a young big-man.

C3 Scouting attended the first annual Minnesota Got Cold Top 20 All-Star Game in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Some of the top 2031, 2032, and 2033 prospects in Minnesota brought their talents.

In this piece we evaluate the top 2031 combo-guard and wing prospects.

Qu’ran Blackmon | 5’10” | 2031 | G | Skyview Middle School | D.U.T. Academy

Blackmon was one of the top overall 2031 prospects and could have been considered a true point guard prospect in the previous article but I can also see a path of him translating into an off-ball guard that can interchange ball-handling duties with a true facilitator. Because Blackmon most definitely has the proficient ball-handling skillset to be a full-time point guard. But with his size and strong frame, that I think will continue to develop, he could be better utilized as a downhill wing that can attack and hit outside shots with a self-creation middle-game.

C3 Scouting attended the first annual Minnesota Got Cold Top 20 All-Star Game in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Some of the top 2031, 2032, and 2033 prospects in Minnesota brought their talents.

While there were a good amount of legitimate prospects with size and length, we’ll first look at the top four and tier-one 2031 true point guard prospects. It’s an exciting group.

Dupree Smith | 5’10” | 2031 | PG | Skyview Middle School | Team Tobias Jr EYBL

Smith is a nationally-recognized 2031 prospect and attends high profile camps that feature the nation’s top talent. His calling card is his ball-handling ability. It’s on an beyond elite level and he’s able to use a series of handle combinations and keep his dribble for as long as he wants. His ball-handling skillset allows him to to get to his spots on the court to score the ball or collapse the defense to find teammates for buckets at the hoop or jumpers on the perimeter. What makes Smith so valuable is his ability to breakdown a defense with his handle and offensive fluidity to score the rock or create offense out of nothing. A Division I talent that thrives with the rock and makes things happen with it.

C3 Scouting has Volume No.3 of South Dakota high school girls breakout candidates. Let’s see who we think takes that next step of production and impact.

London Geiver | 5’11” | 2027 | SG | Brandon Valley

The state runner-ups Brandon Valley Lynx graduated 48.7 points per game with their top three scorers of Alyvia Padgett (24.5), Gracie Salter (13.0), and Ava Kellenberger (10.0). All three are at Division II schools with Padgett at Minnesota State University-Mankato, Salter at University of Sioux Falls, and Kellenberger out west at South Dakota School of Mines.

Now Senior London Geiver was the next scorer at 6.2 points per game, as well as contributing 3.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. Geiver is a top 3 or possibly the best three-point shooter in the state after making 36 of 87 for a ridiculous 41.4% from three. Which I imagined led the state in percentage for those meeting a three-point attempt threshold.

Although I didn’t see her this Summer, Geiver played for the respected Minnesota Fury program, which sees high-level competition all Summer long.

But what will this season bring for Geiver? Her Division II-commit teammates from a year ago opened up a series of open shots for Geiver, so I think her shot quality will be down and she’ll have to earn more open opportunities compared to a year ago. I see her being heavily active off the ball with constant movement and receiving creative screening action designed by one of the best coaches in the state, Mike Zerr.

On the plus side, Brandon Valley has upcoming talent that is penciled in and ready to go. It’s a collective reload as they don’t have the caliber of player that Alyvia Padgett was. A few guards I like that can take pressure off of Geiver and self-create are 2029 point guards Logan Walkes and Brooklyn Helgeson, as well as 2028 guard Lauren Minion. 2028 guard Nya Vellema was going to be one of my major breakout candidates but she suffered a knee injury in the offseason that I don’t have an update on.

The Prep Hoops Wisconsin Freshman Showcase was held at the Community First Champions Center in Appleton, Wisconsin on September 5th. C3 Scouting was there live to see some of the top up-and-coming 2030 prospects in the state of Wisconsin. There was a handful of high-end, high-upside prospects that made it well worth the trip.

In this piece C3 Scouting looks at the top guard prospects from the showcase.

Michael Grzesk | 6’0” | 2030 | G | Milwaukee Academy of Science | KL Power 5 3SSB

The 2030 guard has already picked up a Division I offer from University of Milwaukee. He’s a smooth left-handed guard that has a good handle on the ball and is confident with it and doesn’t let heavy ball pressure take him off his pace.

After seeimg him only once in a live setting, I’d say he could be a guard that could play both on the ball and off the ball.

Around this time of the year is one of my favorite time periods for high school basketball. After everyone’s respective grassroots seasons come to an end, everyone is back with their school programs, and eager to begin working for the next school year.

While I’m sure it’s refreshing for the players, and coaches, it’s also a refreshing time for guys like me that watch these kids all year and bridge the gap between college coaches and prospects.

With that in mind, every fall I make it my business to spend time with the best programs in the area to see what these programs have to offer in the recruiting space, as well as how competitive they will be for their upcoming seasons.

6-foot-4 2028 combo guard Carter Smith out of Penn Charter (PA) has steadily improved over the course of his high school basketball tenure so far. The junior prospect went from young role player as a freshman behind guys like Jake West (Northwestern), and Kai Shinholster (Minnesota), to now leading the pack for a young Quakers program.

Coming fresh off an undefeated season going 22-0 and winning an E16 Peach Jam Title with Team Final (PA) on the EYBL, Smith did a ton of work to boost his national stock this summer.

“Yeah, my summer was busy,” said Smith. “We started in June with Penn Charter at DMV Live which is crazy. Playing in front of 30+ coaches, at every game. We had a rough weekend there, but I think as a team, we got better and learned how to play with each other. Then I went to Nike Top 100 Camp which was great competition. I definitely saw myself emerging against the best guys. Once June 15th hit, I started picking up some more offers and then I got right back on the Peach Jam circuit.”
