The star prospects all came to play in the 2026 OTE season opener, providing fans a viewing experience they may never forget, highlighted by Cayden Daughtry’s absurd career-high performance and 46 points, 6 assists, 6 rebounds, 1 steal statline.
Daughtry made some of the toughest shots known to basketball mankind. On top of the scoring, his passing was electric, with potential assists that didn’t even turn into points that still made you click rewind. He pushed the pace, ran the offense, initiated pick-and-roll, sliced up the high-pressure defense, made impossible shots, fought every play, and against all odds willed his team to victory.
The #1 player in the country Beckham Black didn’t disappoint, either, holding his own in this epic head-to-head matchup. Black showed off his fluid dribble drive body control, weaving in, out, and through defenses with ease all night. Black didn’t have his most efficient outing as a scorer, but he made big shot after big shot and big play after big play to keep his team alive throughout this game.
On the bright side, Black fully flashed his elite playmaking skills on offense setting up his teammates for good open looks and on defense anticipating passes for steals with active hands and good timing. He showed off his shooting touch and self-creation skills with floaters and stepback pull-up 3pt jumpers. His performance exemplified his high-level two-way feel for the game of basketball in nearly every area between winning margin categories like rebounding, team-first shot creation, and forcing turnovers without fouling.
Black’s RWE teammate, CJ Rosser brought legit two-way impact in this one, highlighted by using his defensive instincts to rack up 5 steals and 2 blocks with just 4 fouls along with his play-finishing abilities as a bouncy rim-rolling scorer and knockdown catch-and-shoot 3pt shot.
Rosser scored 24 points and grabbed 8 boards, throwing down 3 powerhouse poster-worthy slam dunks with a head of steam towards the rack, shooting a clean 38% 3P% on 3/8 3P from deep. One impressive side of Rosser’s self-creation abilities was that he was able to pretty much get to any spot and shot he wanted as a tall ball-handler; the problem was the selection of those shots, some of which were very tough to make.
K’nard Callendar was a standout player in this game, adding clear two-way winning impact to his team’s equation. Callendar dropped 22 points, pulled down 16 rebounds with 6 on the offensive glass, swatted 2 shots and forced 1 steal, while throwing down a dunk, knocking down his only three, and shooting 50% 2P% on 16 twos. His 3 Assists-to-3-Turnovers ratio doesn’t jump off the page, but Callendar’s point-forward feel for a 6’8” wing with a 6’10” wingspan dropping wraparound dumpoff passes to the backdoor baseline cutter as the pick-and-roll ball-handler certainly does.
